This beginner-friendly live course (via Google Meet) introduces learners aged 10+ to the world of Artificial Intelligence. In this interactive session, learners will explore what AI is, how it works, where they encounter it in everyday life, and how Generative AI is changing the way we create and interact with technology.

What will be taught:

Students will explore key AI concepts, including:

• What Artificial Intelligence is
• The history and development of AI
• How AI works at a beginner-friendly level
• How AI is used in everyday life
• What Generative AI is
• How Generative AI works
• Examples of Generative AI tools and applications
• The benefits of AI and Generative AI
• The limitations of AI and why AI can make mistakes
• How to think critically about AI-generated information

Class structure:

The session is 60 minutes long, including time for questions and discussion.

Lesson begins with a clear, age-appropriate introduction to the topic, followed by real-world examples, demonstrations and interactive activities.

Learners will explore how AI appears in familiar technologies and consider how different AI systems work and make decisions.

As the course progresses, students will be introduced to Generative AI and explore both its possibilities and its limitations through practical examples and activities.

Teaching style:

My approach is interactive, engaging and focused on helping learners understand AI rather than simply memorising technical terms.

Lesson combines explanations, demonstrations, discussions, real-world examples and activities. Learners are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and think critically about the technology they use.

Complex AI concepts are explained in accessible language suitable for learners aged 10+.

Learner interaction:

Students are encouraged to participate throughout each class by answering questions, discussing examples and completing interactive activities.

There will be opportunities to explore AI concepts together, consider real-world scenarios and discuss questions such as whether an AI-generated answer can always be trusted.

By the end of the course, learners will have a strong introductory understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI, recognise how AI is used in everyday life, and be better equipped to think critically about its benefits, limitations and responsible use.
