This beginner-friendly live course (via Google Meet) introduces learners aged 10+ to the world of cloud computing. Through an interactive session, learners will discover what “the cloud” actually means, how cloud computing works, where they encounter it in everyday life, and why it has become such an important part of modern technology.

What will be taught:

Students will explore key cloud computing concepts, including:

• What cloud computing is
• What we mean when we talk about “the cloud”
• How cloud computing works at a beginner-friendly level
• The difference between storing information locally and in the cloud
• How data and applications can be accessed over the internet
• Everyday examples of cloud computing
• How businesses and organisations use cloud technology
• Benefits of cloud computing, such as accessibility, flexibility and scalability
• Basic ideas around cloud storage, servers and data centres
• Why security and privacy are important when using cloud services

Class structure:

The class is 60 minutes long, including time for questions and discussion.

The session begins with a simple, age-appropriate introduction to cloud computing, helping learners understand what happens when they save a file, use an online application or access information through the internet.

Learners will then explore familiar real-world examples and discover how cloud technology supports many of the digital services they use every day.

Through demonstrations, discussions and interactive activities, students will begin connecting everyday technology with the infrastructure and computing happening behind the scenes.

Teaching style:

My approach is interactive, engaging and focused on making technical concepts easy to understand.

Rather than simply learning definitions, students are encouraged to explore how cloud computing relates to technology they already know and use.

The lesson combines clear explanations, visual examples, demonstrations, questions and interactive activities. Technical concepts are introduced in accessible language suitable for learners aged 10+.

Learner interaction:

Students are encouraged to participate throughout the class by answering questions, sharing ideas and discussing examples of cloud technology.

Learners will consider questions such as: Where does a photo go when you save it to the cloud? Why can you access the same file from different devices? Where is cloud data actually stored?

By the end of the course, learners will have a clear introductory understanding of cloud computing, recognise how cloud technology is used in everyday life, and understand some of the benefits, limitations and considerations involved in using cloud-based services.
